Block themes aren’t just “the future” of WordPress; it’s a reality now. Ignoring them means missing out on growth and opportunities.
A Recap of Changes in WordPress:
Gutenberg, born in 2018, evolved into Full Site Editing in 2021. Since late 2021, all default WordPress themes have embraced blocks. Content creators using block themes in 2024 receive advantages that those on classic templated or custom themes will not.
Remember how everyone felt about editing with Gutenberg back in 2018? Now bloggers talk about their enhanced editor experience, wondering why we didn’t want to switch sooner.
Think about the “year of video.” Were you ahead or are you still catching up? I hate video, I’m a writer by nature, but the data is clear. My sites benefit when I take the time and effort to support my content with video.
Block theme maintenance:
Block themes ride on WordPress updates; classic templated OR custom themes get those features only when back-supporting is easy.
You decide: Do you want to stay on a classic custom or templated theme that fear-mongering developers and blogging industry experts control? Or do you want to flex your freedom and take advantage of the benefits of block-based website building?
Remember: Users are on your site for your content.
Not the cookie-cutter user experience that a competitor offers in their templated (or even super custom) theme.
Block Theme support
Generally speaking, asking for help is not my ideal, even when it’s offered with my templated theme experience. Block themes are supported by the entire WordPress community of developers, which means that I can search for most of my questions and get traction on my goals immediately.
Personally, I hate waiting for someone else to do things for me. I have control issues, so theme limitations are NOT my friend. Even when they’re in my “blog’s best interest.”
Creator Theme offers a happy medium of full client control with a ton of built-in ad, SEO, and UX optimizations. Made a weird style change that messed up your site’s performance like width adjustments or responsiveness? Click reset.
Need help moving content from your old theme into blocks? Check out content services, which are available to anyone using creator theme.
Want a more customized approach to your theme? Hire any developer confident working in Full Site Editing OR hire the developers that built this theme using a Once Coupled tier of customization.
I’ve wanted to be a successful blogger for almost as long as I’ve worked in the food blogging niche at Once Coupled. It’s 2024 and my party blog is just now getting a bit of traction, primarily since transitioning to Creator Theme.
I refuse to allow myself to lose momentum because there are fearmongers in the blogging industry who are adverse to change and recommend waiting to embrace “new technology.”
